Cincinnati Magazine is looking for a curious, creative, highly motivated journalist to handle a broad range of editorial duties in the conception, coordination, and execution of a monthly city magazine. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
·         Plan, concept, assign, edit, and write stories for the magazine’s regular sections, which include Radar (covering shops, local craftspeople, travel, and style), Frontlines (stories behind news of the day, events, and the arts), and Dine (restaurant reviews, dining news, and food trends)
·         Edit and write stories for the magazine’s custom projects and special sections, some of which are inserted into or delivered with the monthly magazine and some of which are produced as stand-alone publications
·         Assist in the proof routing process: make proof corrections, facilitate communication between art and editorial staff, review proofs at all stages of production
·         Work with the Digital Media Editor to participate in any and all digital initiatives, including (but not limited to) regular contributions to the magazine’s blogs, creation of web exclusive stories, posting of existing stories to the website, promoting the magazine through social media
·         Generate ideas for all sections of the magazine, website, and digital properties
·         Report and write pieces for all service packages as well as other sections of the magazine as needed and available

Education/Experience:

Our newsroom of television and digital journalists is like none other, with 7 hours of newscasts each day and dozens of digital-first premium local enterprise stories each week.
The multi-media journalist is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content and editing stories for multiple platforms.
Key activities: 
  • Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
  • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
  • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
  • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.
  • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.
  • Appears on television program when conducting taped interview or narration
  • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.
  • Work cooperatively with photographer assigned to story, if one is assigned.
  • Assist news producer in preparing newscast.
  • Assist online staff in preparing for multi-media stories.
  • Report, write, capture quality visual content, edit and produce stories for multiple platforms on deadline, such as Internet and digital channels.
Education & Experience/Certifications:
·         Bachelors degree in broadcast journalism or related degree or equivalent years of experience
·         Minimum of two years of experience
Skills & Abilities:
  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.
  • Edit video on Final Cut Pro editing systems, or similar equipment.
  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.
  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.
  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.

IT Manager

The IT Manager oversees local area networks; compliance; installation/maintenance/documentation of computers; and serves as the liaison with corporate office
Key Activities:
  • Maintain the daily documentation of required systems, including backups, adds, deletions, service patches.
  • Perform installation, setup and maintenance on personal computers and local area networks (LAN), service as key person working with corporate office on WAN and special projects
  • Serve as Purchasing Agent for WCPO IT asset management (e.g. software license management, hardware and software, peripherals.)
  • Maintain Traffic/Sales Wide Orbit system on the local level and Financial System, ensuring it is operational and compliant with corporate security policies, including backup systems and offsite storage.
  • Maintain Sarbanes-Oxley quarterly self-assessment certifications as well as other controls to corporate mandated levels of compliance.  Develop "best practices" for systems that do not fall under SOX Controls.
  • Maintain appropriate computer related studio electronic equipment and systems including but not limited to Apple editing systems, Promise SAN, Apple servers, Crispin automation, VIZrt graphics systems, Weather systems, Live streaming platforms, Compusat automation, AVID iNews and other broadcast systems.
Education & Experience/Certifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 5 - 8 years experience. Minimum of 5 years' experience required in PC Systems and Networking, having been an IT leader or equivalent during past 3 years.  Excellent communications and leadership skills plus a service-oriented attitude are particularly important.  SBE and Cisco certifications are desired. 
Skills & Abilities:
  • Individual should have good computer networking skills, good people skills and good organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced live-news environment where response time is critical
  • Must be able to conform to high security environment and execute the rules governing the Scripps company security and controls policies.
  • Must be able to keep up with daily documentation of the computer network. Knowledge of Cisco related- certification is desired.
  • Must be able to work flexible work hours, including holidays, weekends and evenings. Must be able to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and work well with other people.
