REGION 4 NEWS – SUMMER 2018
Volume 3

APPLY NOW TO BECOME REGION 4 COORDINATOR
If you’ve ever wanted to take on more responsibility in the Society of Professional Journalists, consider applying to become Region 4 Coordinator.

SPJ members will vote on the position during EIJ in Baltimore. The current Region 4 Director, Tom McKee, is not running for the position due to time constraints.

The title changes from Region 4 Director to Region 4 Coordinator at the conclusion of the Baltimore conference.

Whoever holds the position will not be a member of the national board. However, there will always be opportunities for input into national activities.

The biggest responsibility in the job is overseeing the planning for and execution of the Region 4 Spring Conference.

The Cleveland Pro Chapter has already agreed to host the event on March 8-9, 2018, at Cleveland State University.

Another task is assisting other regional coordinators in determining professional and student chapter awards.

Not to be forgotten is work to strengthen existing chapters, prop up those that have become dormant and help establish new chapters.

REGIONAL TREASURER NEEDED, TOO
The region is also on the lookout for a new treasurer. Jeremy Steele has done a masterful job for several years, but his work duties have increased to the point where he’d like to turn
the treasury over to someone else.

The SPJ Board will vote on new financial guidelines for regional treasurers during EIJ18 in Baltimore.

EIJ18 – HAVE YOU REGISTERED FOR BALTIMORE?
Do you have your reservations made for EIJ18 in Baltimore? If not, there’s still time to register and join in the fun. Lots of great seminars and tremendous people in a terrific city.

EIJ18 -- STUDENT ATTENDANCE OPPORTUNITY
If you’re a student wishing to attend EIJ18, but aren’t sure how you’ll pay for the registration, travel and hotel costs, read on.

Region 4 is awarding a $500 grant each to two students who need a little financial help to enjoy the festivities in Baltimore.

It’s very simple to apply and the possible reward is certainly worth the few minutes of time it will take to show your interest.

Just send an e-mail with the following information on it to tmckee@wcpo.com and you’ll be in the hunt for the grant.

--Name, street address, city, state, ZIP code, e-mail address, phone number

--One creative paragraph about why EIJ18 will be a better conference if you’re in Baltimore
Don’t put it off – the deadline is August 31st. Good luck.
