The Journalism & Digital Media Academy at NKU This Summer

JOURNALISM AND DIGITAL MEDIA: DISCOVER A NEW AGE OF NEWS AND KNOWLEDGE
JULY 22-26
Rising 9th to 12th graders
Times:     8:30 am - 4:30 pm
Location:  Griffin Hall
Explore Northern Kentucky University with cameras, microphones and keyboards as part of this hands-on media academy. Students will learn the art and technology of multimedia storytelling under the guidance of faculty and student mentors from the journalism, electronic media and broadcasting and media informatics programs in the College of Informatics. And they’ll publish their work on the academy website and social media.
Main Topics:
  • Digital Tools: What are the best apps and social media tools for creating and sharing media today? Experiment with the latest additions to the digital toolbox and learn innovative ways to present information.
  • Media Aesthetics: How do I capture action and emotion in compelling visuals with a message? How do I shoot, record and edit my own videos?
  • Newsgathering: How do journalists find the right sources, ask the right questions and verify data and other facts for publication?
  • Digital storytelling: How do I develop fair, accurate and interesting multimedia news stories that people will want to read, watch and share with friends?
