Election SOS Fellowship - For Students, Recent Grads

Two dedicated SPJers – past president and former ethics chair Lynn Walsh and SPJ Florida past president and diversity fellow Christiana Lilly – are working with Election SOS, which trains journalists to better cover elections. This week, Election SOS announced college fellowships.

These are paid positions at $25 an hour. Details below. There is a tight deadline to apply.

Info.:  We have officially launched the Election SOS fellowship

Some background: This is a project to connect students and recent grads to newsrooms to get experience working during this historic election. We will be pairing students with newsrooms (they might not necessarily be in the same market) to help with data entry, tracking polling, helping with booking, researching, and keeping an eye out on social media channels for voter suppression, militia activity, and any questions the audience might be asking that reporters need to know about.

We will be providing them with some basic training (the newsrooms I'm sure will have their own systems of doing things that they will have to teach the fellows) and I'll also be hosting a Fake News Game Show to break the ice. Election SOS will be paying students $25 an hour with shifts about eight to 30 hours per week, depending on their availability. This also takes a financial burden off of the newsroom when they need more people to help out.

Spread the word to any deserving students. Click on the link above for more information and to apply. Deadline is Sept. 29.
